Songs of the American Railroad

The 5th Graders are starting to learn about songs of the American Railroad in music.  It is very cool to hear about the history of our country through music.  We're going to learn about different cultures that helped make the railroad (Chinese, African American, Irish) and learn about how songs can help us work and also help make light of a bad situation.

Classes this week were able to read some poems/songs that were created during this time and talked about the different things they learned through these odd poems.

These guys read about the Wreck of Old 97

They laughed about Poor Paddy on the Railway

These students talked about the "Terriers" who drilled their way through mountains for the Railroad

Stay tuned for more about our American Railroad unit and the fun things that we are doing in music class!!
