Working on New Rhythms in 2nd Grade!!

In second grade we are learning two new rhythm symbols, the half note and half rest.  We learned about them last time, so today the kids were working with partners to show off their clapping skills.  Since they also want to be able to recognize each of the rhythms as well, we play a game where one person claps a rhythm from their book and the other has to find the same rhythm in their book.  They had a great time and showed us that they really understood our new symbols!

Here's one student patiently waiting while his partner searches for the rhythm he clapped.

Clearly these ladies were having a good time!

Miss RAINS!!  Why do you have to take my picture!!  And also... Go Blackhawks!!

Stopping to show some smiles!

We're working here!!

If you would like to learn more about the different rhythm symbols that you child learns here at The Wheatlands, please check out the School Website link above so you can see what they know!  There are also some handy study guides for practicing at home.
